Annual Awards Program

2014 TROPHY AWARDS PROGRAM FOR THE FEBRUARY 21, 2015 BANQUET

awards

These categories are recognized for the Chapter Trophy Awards Program: North American; Africa; South America, Europe, Asia, and South Pacific; Estate; Alabama Whitetail Deer; Wild Turkey; Youth; Alternative Weapons; and Female. At its July 16, 2013, meeting the Board of Directors made the following modifications to the “What May Be Entered” section of the Trophy Awards Program (changes are in bold).

Trophies that have been taken by the member under fair chase, lawful and ethical hunting practices, as stipulated on the official SCI measuring forms, are eligible for submission to the Trophy Awards Program. The trophy must have been legally taken with a weapon recognized for the species by the SCI record book. Except for the Youth award, the trophy must also meet the minimum requirements for entry into the SCI record book. To be eligible in any award category, except the Doug Willey Memorial Award, the trophy must have been taken within the last two years. To be eligible for the Doug Willey Memorial Award, the trophy must have been taken no earlier than the preceding calendar year and the entrant must have been an Alabama Chapter member at the time the trophy was taken. An exception to this time limit is made for any trophy that has been held up by shipping or CITES restrictions that would have prevented measurement by an Official SCI Measurer or a Master Measurer.”

Entries must be sent to Jonathan Lehr so that they are received no later than January 24, 2015 in order to get the winners decided and the trophies made. Each entry must include an SCI measurement form fully completed by an SCI measurer; at least one but preferably two different color photos, and must be marked with the desired category: North American; Africa; South America, Europe, Asia, and South Pacific; Estate; Alabama Whitetail Deer; Wild Turkey; Youth; Alternative Weapons; or Female. If no category is indicated, the trophy awards chair will use his best judgment as to which category it will be entered. Failure to include required information may prevent your entry from being considered. Photos should be emailed to Jonathan at jl4outdoors@gmail.com.

DON’T FORGET ABOUT OUR YOUTH CATEGORY! Every youth that submits an entry will be called up on stage at the banquet to receive recognition. Requirements and highlights of this award category include:
1. The youth hunter must have been 15 years of age or younger at the time the animal was taken. Please write the birthdate of the youth hunter on the measurement form.
2. The youth hunter does not have to belong to the Alabama Chapter of SCI but must be in the immediate family of a Chapter member. Include contact information for the Chapter member.
3. If the animal entered would win one of the major awards, it will be included in the appropriate category at the submitters request. If not, it will be entered into the Youth category.
4. The category will be judged on a basis similar to the Doug Willey award.

Please note this addition to the trophy awards program: If fewer than three animals are entered into a category, no awards will be given for that category and the animals entered will be held over until the next year. If the hold-over takes the animal beyond the time limit for submission, a one-year extension will be granted. An exception to this rule may be allowed if an animal ranks as gold medal in the SCI record book.

If you would like your entry form and photos returned to you, please include a pre-addressed and stamped envelope. Otherwise, your materials will be taken to the banquet for pick-up there. If you have any further questions about the trophy awards, call Jonathan at 256-452-1444.
